Its kinda catchy the slogan for 'tis year: "I want to be..." hahaha...
Today's lesson has been very interesting, though the lecture part was short & sweet. But looking through the lesson ppt for today, I took in a lot more than I expected. A lot of new discoveries.
OK, certain things are already learnt earlier. Among these that are in today's lesson are phrase searching with inverted commas ("), narrowing down searches using main keywords, & to filter searches to narrow down to specific topics. Also, we recapped on how to cite sources using the APA format. This was even more familiar as my peers in NUS & NTU were doing the same, so I guess it is standardised here in SG.
Interestingly, I came across more than one new discovery!
- Using stems & wildcards ( *, ? )
- Using Boolean operators: AND (+), OR, NOT (-)
- Using brackets to force order of search: ( )
Somewhat, the Boolean operators remind me of gates you learn in Electrical Engineering or something.Understanding directories and databases were a breeze.
We then turned to our workstations to start today's task...E-shopping! I'll fill you in on that in just a while...Be back in a flash... =)
